Las Vegas, Baby! (Day 1)

Joe had a business convention in Las Vegas and convinced me to come with him. It was a lot of work to go (laundry for seven people for a week, house work, and scheduling to start). Then, at four in the morning today, Eva woke up with the croup. It scared me so badly that I nursed her back to sleep, propped her up, and got up and vacuumed the downstairs. All went well. We left our home and children in the loving and capable hands of Dan and Katy and we were off on an adventure! The flight was a little bumpy but quick. (Despite the TSA commotion. Are we really "safer" after going through all that?) We were put up in the Wynn Hotel. A friend of mine, Cassy, mentioned that a friend of hers who graduated from BYU Idaho did some of the decorating inside. It felt very clean and classy. Ironically, like the inside of an LDS temple. I have bad early memories of Vegas (big, dirty, smoky, "players" in the wee hours of the morning, etc.). This time around, we had an enjoyable trip--despite fate. Yes, that is yellow zuccini used in the fresh floral arrangement (far right). The tv was on a pull out arm. The bath tub was a waterfall faucet. Yes, that is a wall mounted tv so you can catch the game or that important movie while applying your makeup or soaking in the tub after walking the Strip (which is quite a long walk, actually). The sheers were beautiful--transparent with a metallic/rainbow glow. Most everything in the room was automated--different light settings, closing and opening the drapes and sheers, room service, privacy sign, etc. was all controlled by the bedside with buttons. We walked by (ti) Treasure Island searching for responably priced food and saw the Sirens/Pirate Show and fireworks. Ceasar inside Cesar's Place Shopping Center. Eva loved the HUGE aquarium (and the Asians loved taking pictures of her.) Here's the real Poseidon! Joe marveled at the large circular escalators. (My camera shot these pictures much darker than they were--inside was light and airy, white marble). Joe's brother, Dave and his wife Kelene, picked us up from the airport. Kelene dances for the Donny and Marie Osmond show and we were excited to see the show tonight. As fate would have it, some of the dancers were replaced and the show was canceled for rehearsals and sold out tomorrow night and so we will have to see the show another time. We walked to the Cheesecake Factory and shared Avocado Wraps (Eva loved the rice noodles), Miso Salmon and took The White Chocolate Macadamia Cheesecake slice to share back to our hotel room.
